Recycling random bits in parallel

چکیده
We show that r pseudo-random bits can be obtained by concatenating t blocks of r/t pseudo-random bits, where the blocks are generated in parallel. This can be considered as a parallel version of [a] recycling random bits by doing a random walk on an expander. The proof is based on the fact that t simultaneous independent random walks on an expander graph is equivalent to a random walk on a much larger expander. In [8] generating the random walk requires arithmetic operation with long integers. In the parallel version the integers involved are much shorter, and different segments of the pseudo-random bits are generated independently in parallel. Optimal speedup is also achieved.

متن کاملOn Recycling the Randomness of the States in Space Bounded Computation
Let M be a logarithmic space Turing machine (or a polynomial width branching program) that uses up to k ≈ 2 √ logn (read once) random bits. For a fixed input, let Pi(S) be the probability (over the random string) that at time i the machine M is in state S, and assume that some weak estimation of the probabilities Pi(S) is known or given or can be easily computed. We construct a logarithmic spac...

This report provides a brief review of lectures given by Michael Luby and Avi Wigderson in 1995 on the topic of pairwise independence and derandomization. We show that BPP ⊂ ∆2 with a proof given by Sipser in 1983 and then exhibit different ways of recycling random bits given by Chor and Goldreich (1989), Nisan (1992), Impagliazzo and Zuckerman (1990), Karp, Pippenger and Sipser (1986) and by A...
متن کاملExact Classical Simulation of the GHZ Distribution
John Bell has shown that the correlations entailed by quantum mechanics cannot be reproduced by a classical process involving non-communicating parties. But can they be simulated with the help of bounded communication? This problem has been studied for more than twenty years and it is now well understood in the case of bipartite entanglement. However, the issue was still widely open for multipa...
متن کاملTwo Fast Parallel GCD Algorithms of Many Integers
We present two new parallel algorithms which compute the GCD of n integers of O(n) bits in O(n/ logn) time with O(n) processors in the worst case, for any ε > 0 in CRCW PRAM model. More generally, we prove that computing the GCD of m integers of O(n) bits can be achieved in O(n / logn) parallel time with O(mn ) processors, for any 2 ≤ m ≤ n/ logn, i.e. the parallel time does not depend on the n...
